Brian Cragg, DCh, BSc (Hons) Podiatric Medicine discusses the symptoms, causes and laser treatment for fungal toenails.

The Q-Clear Q-Switch™ laser treatment, can effectively and efficiently rid you of ugly unsightly toenail infections in as little as one treatment, depending on the severity of the condition. The mid-infrared laser wavelength penetrates the nail and the nail bed, eliminating the destructive nasty infection thus allowing your own body to revitalize your own nail naturally as it grows out clean, clear and healthy.

Laser toenail treatment studies are very positive and to date no known side effects have been found. Laser nail fungus treatments have success rates of around 80% in clinical trials and are a safe alternative to oral medications that can have side effects.

Ingrown Toenails Treatment - Chiropodist in East Markham, Unionville and Stouffville, ON

Brian Cragg, DCh, BSc (Hons) Podiatric Medicine discusses the symptoms, causes and treatments for ingrown toenails.

http://www.markhamfootcare.com

Ingrown toenails, also known as onychocryptosis, is usually caused by trimming toenails too short, particularly on the sides of the big toes. They may also be caused by shoe pressure (from shoes that are too tight or short), injury, fungus infection, heredity, or poor foot structure. Ingrown toenails occur when the corners or sides of the toenail dig into the skin, often causing infection. A common ailment, ingrown toenails can be painful. Ingrown toenails start out hard, swollen, and tender. Left untreated, they may become sore, red, and infected and the skin may start to grow over the ingrown toenail.

In most cases, treating ingrown toenails is simple: soak the foot in warm, soapy water several times each day. Avoid wearing tight shoes or socks. Antibiotics are sometimes prescribed if an infection is present. Note: Please consult your physician before taking any medications. In severe cases, if an acute infection occurs, surgical removal of part of the ingrown toenail may be needed. Known as partial nail plate avulsion, the procedure involves injecting the toe with an anesthetic and cutting out the ingrown part of the toenail.

Custom Orthotics for Foot Problems - Chiropodist in East Markham, Unionville and Stouffville, ON

Brian Cragg, DCh, BSc (Hons) Podiatric Medicine discusses how custom orthotics can help alleviate your foot pain.

http://www.markhamfootcare.com

There are many different types of in-shoe devices that are referred to or marketed to the public as "orthotics". You will see "orthotics" in TV infomercials, booths at consumer shows as well as a growing number of retails stores and specialty shoe stores. Arch supports and insoles sold in drug stores, shoe stores and sporting goods stores are now being called orthotics. Most consumers don't know the difference between a true custom made prescription foot orthotic and an "orthotic" you can purchase from a retail store or a booth at a consumer trade show.

The following information will help educate you, so you are able to make an informed decision regarding your foot health when being prescribed or when purchasing a custom made prescription foot orthotic.

CUSTOM MADE PRESCRIPTION FOOT ORTHOTICS

Custom foot orthotics are medical devices that are custom made and are worn inside your shoes. They are designed to control the functions of the foot and the alignment of the foot with the lower leg and/or accommodate painful areas of the foot such as a painful pressure point or a corn. Most patients have very good results with custom foot orthotic therapy when worn in combination with well built stable shoes as opposed to old worn out shoes. Treatment with custom foot orthotics can result in a dramatic decrease or total reduction of pain in the feet for conditions such as heel pain, bone spurs and plantar fasciitis as well as pain in the lower legs, knees, hips and lower back.
